Industry — Media & Entertainment

Streaming is a rights problem before it is a video problem

We build OTT, VOD and live platforms for companies whose catalogue is licensed rather than owned — where a title has a start date, an end date, a territory list and a device restriction, and where the delivery bill grows with every viewer you win.

The catalogue is the hard part, not the player

Content pipeline and playback engineering

Playback is a solved problem. What is not solved is everything around it: a licence that expires at midnight in one territory and runs another two years in the next, a master that arrives with no subtitle track, a metadata field the recommendation system depends on that ingest never filled, and a delivery bill that rises with every success. Aryavos builds those systems — rights, ingest, metadata, entitlement, measurement and billing — for teams who already know how to make the content.

What We Build

The systems that sit around the stream

  • OTT & VOD Platforms

Catalogue, search, playback and account management across web, mobile and TV — with a CMS the programming team can actually schedule from, rather than one that needs an engineer for every window change.

  • Live & Event Streaming

Encoding, packaging and failover for scheduled broadcasts and one-off events, including the parts that only matter on the night: redundant ingest, a graceful fallback slate, and start-over or catch-up once the event ends.

  • Recommendation & Discovery

Rows, search ranking and personalisation built on the signals you actually have. Cold-start behaviour and editorial override matter more than the model — a new title with no watch history still has to be findable.

  • Content Pipelines & Metadata

Ingest, transcode, subtitle and artwork workflows with validation at the door, so an asset that is missing a rating, a language track or a duration is caught before it reaches the catalogue instead of after a viewer complains.

  • Rights, Windowing & Entitlement

Licence terms modelled as data — territory, window, device class, exclusivity, holdback — and enforced at playback through DRM and entitlement checks, so availability changes with the contract rather than with a manual takedown.

  • Monetisation & Billing

Subscriptions, ad-supported tiers, transactional rentals and bundles, including trials, proration, dunning and the store-billing rules that differ on each platform you publish to.

How We Work

What working with Aryavos on a media build looks like

The things that tend to decide whether a streaming product still holds up when the catalogue triples, the campaign lands, and finance asks what delivery cost per stream.

Playback Tested on the Devices People Own

The living-room estate is old, slow and fragmented. We test against the TV sold five years ago and the low-end handset on a weak connection, not only the flagship on the desk — because that is where start-up time and buffering complaints come from.

Metadata Treated as Infrastructure

Recommendations, search, accessibility and rights enforcement all read from the same fields. When those fields are inconsistent, every feature downstream degrades quietly — so validation, normalisation and correction tooling are part of the build, not an afterthought.

Delivery Cost as a Design Input

Bitrate ladders, codec choice, packaging strategy, cache hit rate and multi-CDN routing are the levers that move the bill. We measure cost per stream alongside quality, so the trade-off is a decision someone made rather than a surprise on an invoice.

Built for the Spike, Not the Average

Premieres, finales and live events arrive as a wall of concurrent sessions in a few minutes. Capacity planning, queueing at sign-in, cache warming and graceful degradation are designed for that shape of traffic.

A Launch Scope You Can Defend

Web and mobile first, TV apps and store certification once the catalogue and the pipeline are real. Phasing this way keeps the long review cycles off the critical path of your launch date.

Monetisation That Can Change Its Mind

Subscription today, an ad-supported tier next year, rentals for a window in between. We keep pricing, entitlement and packaging separate from playback so a commercial change does not become a platform rewrite.

Platform Capabilities

What the platform actually has to do

Every one of these has a version that demos well and a version that survives premiere night with a full catalogue behind it.

Adaptive Playback Across Screens

HD and UHD delivery with bitrate ladders tuned per title, resume across devices, offline download where the licence allows it, and a player that recovers from a dropped segment instead of throwing the viewer back to the start.

Ingest, Transcode & Packaging

Masters in, playable renditions out — with subtitle and audio track handling, artwork derivatives, quality checks and a queue that can be re-run for one title without reprocessing the catalogue.

Audience Measurement

Plays, completion, drop-off points, concurrency and playback failures counted the same way the commercial team counts them, so the product dashboard and the revenue report do not tell two different stories.

Live Streaming & Latency Control

Scheduled and ad-hoc live events with redundant ingest, DVR-style pause and rewind, and latency tuned to the format — a sports feed and a conference keynote do not need the same trade-off against stability.

Storage, CDN & Delivery Control

Tiered storage for a library that mostly sits idle, origin shielding, cache policy and the ability to shift traffic between providers when one has a bad day or a better rate.

Profiles, Watchlists & Engagement

Household profiles with their own history and parental limits, watchlists that sync across devices, continue-watching that is accurate, and the notifications that bring people back when something they follow lands.

Frequently Asked Questions

The questions we get asked first

05Answered below

As data, not as a manual process. Each licence becomes a rule with a territory, a start and end, device or resolution limits, exclusivity and any holdback — and availability is derived from those rules at request time. A title that goes dark at midnight in one market goes dark on its own, stays live where it is still licensed, and leaves a record of why it changed. Where rights come from an external rights management system, we integrate rather than duplicate, because two copies of a licence eventually disagree.

A developer reads it, not an auto-responder. Expect questions about scope and constraints first, then a suggested way to start.
